Goodbye, Jack Bauer — ’24′ Cancelled!

Posted in Conversation Piece on March 30, 2010 by mymorningjoe

Time is just about up for Jack Bauer. Sorry 24 fanatics, but the real-time Kiefer Sutherland drama series has been cancelled, and this will be its last season.

Fox issued a statement Friday saying that the series’ May 24 two-hour finale will be the show’s last hurrah, and that the call to put an end to the series was a collective decision agreed to by Sutherland, 24 producers, and Fox executives.

“This has been the role of a lifetime, and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible. While the end of the series is bittersweet, we always wanted 24 to finish on a high note, so the decision to make the eighth season our last was one we all agreed upon,” Sutherland said in a statement. “This feels like the culmination of all our efforts from the writers to the actors to our fantastic crew and everyone at Fox. Looking ahead to the future, Howard Gordon and I are excited about the opportunity to create the feature of 24. But when all is said and done, it is the loyal worldwide fan base that made it possible for me to have the experience of playing the role of Jack Bauer, and for that I am eternally grateful.”

All hope is not lost, though. In addition to the reference Sutherland made about a possible 24 movie, sources say NBC head honcho Angela Bromstad is a “major league” fan of the show that debuted in 2001, is “extremely motivated to find a way to bring the series to The Peacock.”

Could there be yet another day in Jack Bauer’s future? Only time will tell.

Liberal reporter Roger Friedman loses second job within a year

Posted in Conversation Piece on March 28, 2010 by mymorningjoe

Frog-faced liberal entertainment reporter Roger Friedman has been firedlet go” from The Hollywood Reporter, where he was hired after he was fired from Fox News last year. Roger Friedman is known for unethical reporting that first became known in 2004 when he made up a very negative story about Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ.

Los Angeles based reporter Nikki Finke broke the story yesterday. Roger Friedman emailed Nikki Finke to say he was “not fired or let go.” He then explained that he was simply released because they decided not to renew his contract. However, THR editor Elizabeth Guider said that they decided to go for a different editorial direction.

An insider tells this column that THR  received several complaints about Roger Friedman’s articles being factually inaccurate. We praise THR for getting rid of this vile hack, but what exactly were they thinking when they hired this guy in the first place?
